Abstract
•Strong declining trends of pCO2 and CO2 flux were found in lake surface water.•The lake was a CO2 source in early morning but a sink in late afternoon.•pCO2 dynamics were mainly driven by aquatic metabolism in the daytime.•Findings suggest uncertainties in the current carbon evasion estimates from lakes.
