High-temperature cyclic oxidation of Pt-rich γ-γ’ bond-coatings. Part II: Effect of Pt and Al on TBC system lifetime

•New compositions of Pt-rich γ-γ’ coatings were produced using industrial processes.•TBC systems with γ-γ’ coatings on first generation superalloy can sustain more than 1000 cycles at 1100 °C.•The weak point of the Pt-rich γ-γ’ coating based TBC systems was the metal / oxide interface.•Systems produced with a 5 μm Pt layer and without aluminizing led to the best thermal cycling resistance.
