Abstract
•β-cyclodextrins (βCD) can be used as carriers for allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) as a natural preservative.•βCD suppress the volatility and mask the pungent odor of AITC.•βCD-AITC treatment on wood significantly reduces the mass loss of southern yellow pine against Gloeophyllum trabeum.•βCD can be used as carriers for volatile antimicrobial compounds for wood protection.
