Abstract
This work aims at analyzing the use of the advanced energy storage systems to maintain the operation of the diesel generators closer to their rated power, when the diesel generators operate at this point they save diesel and reduce the CO 2 emission. In this work, we compare the diesel consumption, frequency and voltage levels in the most critical transition of power requirement of a platform supply vessel (PSV) standard mission with and without battery. In the system without a battery the influence of the bus-tie operation mode and the governor control mode on the PSV operation. Moreover, in the system with a battery, we force the generators to operate closer to their optimal consumption point excluding the use of the governors and transferring the responsibility of frequency regulation to the battery converter. The voltage control is maintained divided between the Average Voltage Regulator of the diesel generators and the battery.
