•An annealing temperature affects the position of Au NPs plasmon peak in hybrid structures with a-C:H films with a narrow and wide optical gap.•Hybrid structures of Au NPs with a narrow and wide optical gap a-C:H films have different dependences of the plasmonic peak on the annealing temperature.•The changes of Au NPs plasmon peak depend on annealing and a-C:H optical gap.
