Optically-induced thermal nonlinear effects in a thin nematic liquid-crystal result from light absorption by the ITO coating of an infrared femtosecond laser. Subsequent spatial shaping characterises the thermal gradient, up to the isotropic phase transition. (C) 2019 The Author(s)
