A projection method for convection-dominated phase transitions

•Based on On the basis of the projection method for solving the Navier–Stokes equations, a solution algorithm for solid-liquid phase transitions is derived.•The derived algorithm shows good results with regard to the efficiency compared with other methods.•Relative to the other methods, the two-dimensional case presented in the article shows a good fit with experimental results.•A graphical interpretation of the algorithm is provided.
