Estimation of sediment trapping behind check dams using high-density electrical resistivity tomography

•We employed a high-density electrical resistivity system to detect sediment.•Trenches, boreholes and drillings were used to calibrate the ETR values.•Geometric methods considering three shapes were used to estimate sediment volume.•A four-step approach can estimate sediment yield for ungauged catchments.
