•A type L934 orthogonal experiment and SEM observation were performed to investigate the interfacial bonding behavior.•Spraying direction has a significant influence on the interfacial mechanical performance.•The SEM observations show that more and larger voids and AFt crystals appeared when upward spraying was conducted.
