Abstract
•A two-tier distribution of the threshold value of efficiency of urban trees in hot-humid cities was revealed.•Two factors that are highly correlated with threshold value of efficiency (TVoE) variation were identified.•The concept model that could simulate the effects of NDVI and background temperature was proposed.•The implications for climate adaption planning in hot-humid (Asian) cities were suggested.
