The interaction between behavioural traits and demographic and management factors in German Shepherd dogs

•Fifteen major components of behaviour in German Shepherd dogs were identified.•Two aggression-related components explained the greatest variation between dogs.•The cohort of the dog (UK or Sweden) was associated with most behaviour components.•Training and participation in dog competitions were favourably associated with behaviour.
