Abstract
This study aims to provide project design in the industrial district households in Bandarharjo fish smokehouse Semarang, Central Java by implementing an Environmental Management System. This project design provides a novel technology in the process of smoking fish. The subject of this research is development of society in Bandarharjo especially fish craftsmen in the household fish smokehouse industrial district. This research method applies design methods and technologies to maximize the production and process of liquid waste product. An architectural design is also applied for space analysis to determine type and magnitude of space in the fish smoking unit. The study was conducted in four phases, which were survey and data collection, user identification and activity, production technology design and waste treatment followed by space designing. Waste treatment unit is projected to integrate three different processes which are solid waste treatment, liquid waste treatment and gas waste treatment. Those three phases of waste are major concerns in any smoking fish industries. Solid waste was produced from unused solid materials of smoking fish process while liquid waste was generated from fish cleaning unit and gas waste was produced during smoking process. This research results in a layout of modern fish smokehouse series which is environmental friendly and equipped with processing technology for waste treatment. This integrated waste treatment provides conversion of fumes to be liquid smoke and recovery of waste water to be process water.
