The first stereoselective total synthesis of cytotoxic diacetylene pyranone B is described. The key steps involved in the synthesis are baseinduced elimination protocol to generate the chiral acetylenic alcohol and selective cross- coupling of unsymmetrical terminal acetylenes. [GRAPHICS] .
