El arte de saber durar… sobre la continuidad de los poderes locales en la Galicia rural entre franquismo y democracia (1973-1979)

This article documents, using a biographical methodology, those concrete ways of patrimonial use of political power that allowed an important fraction of francoist socioeconomic and political elites last through the end of the Regime and the Transi­tion to democracy. Our analysis focus on the Galician (North West Spain) southern provinces of Ourense and Pontevedra, where we have found evidences of that kind of practices of patronage in the management of the territory and the community resources, in collusion with Spanish government strategies to ensure a successful insti­tutional spread of the ruling party networks (Union de Centro Democratico – UCD) across the country.
