Novel photo-functional material based on homo-metallic cyanide bridged nickel coordination polymer and titania for hydrogen generation

•Novel 3D [{NiII(4,4′-dipy)4}{Ni(CN)4}]n (1)) coordination polymer has been synthesized.•Compound 1 is functionalized by making its composite with P25 (titanium dioxide).•The 1/TiO2 composite is used as a photocatalyst for H2 production from water.•The 5 wt% 1/TiO2 composite showed the maximum H2 production of 11.2 mmol h−1 g−1.
