Abstract
•The native oxide on the surface of Zr-31Ti-18Nb alloy is composed of ZrO2, TiO2, NbO2 and Nb2O5.•Impact treatment of the alloy causes the deformation-enhanced oxidation of the alloy components.•Impact treatment of the alloy brings about deformation-induced oxidation of carbide and nitride precipitates.•Impact treatment modifies the composition and chemical state of both sides of the sample.
