Evaluation Of Se-72/As-72 Generator And Production Of Se-72 For Supplying As-73 As A Potential Pet Imaging Radionuclide

Positron-emitting As-72 is the PET imaging counterpart for beta-emitting As-77. Its parent, no carrier added (n.c.a.) Se-72, was produced for a Se-72/As-72 generator by irradiating an enriched (7)degrees Ge metal-graphite target via the Ge-70 (alpha, 2 n)Se-72 reaction. Target dissolution used a fast, environmentally friendly method with 93% radioactivity recovery. Chromatographic parameters of the Se-72/As-72 generator were evaluated, the eluted n.c.a. As-72 was characterized with a phantom imaging study, and the previously reported trithiol and aryl-dithiol ligand systems were radiolabeled with the separated n.c.a. As-72 in high yield.
