Abstract
Objectives: To investigate the correlation of clinical stages of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) with the expression of circulating miRNA-21 for early diagnosis of cancer patients. Methods: This study has enrolled 20 patients of OSCC from King George Medical College, Lucknow, U.P., India. Pathologists have seen the Haematoxylin & Eosin staining of biopsy samples and they categorized these biopsies according to AJCC criteria and then they were correlated with the qRT-PCR expression analysis of miRNA-21. Results: The statistical test, ANOVA has indicated a positive correlation between up-regulation of miRNA-21 with the clinical stages of the OSCC. Conclusion: The findings of this study concluded a significant increase (p = 0.000) in the expression of miRNA-21 with the clinical staging (I-IV) of oral cancer. More studies are needed to validate the correlation between the expression of circulating miRNA-21 and OSCC stages for better management of this cancer cases.
