•The magnetic behavior of D022 Mn3Ga is investigated at high temperature (up to Tc).•The partial (≤ 3%) Gd doping in Mn3Ga enhances the hard magnetic characteristics.•The magnetization reversal is examined by Stoner-Wohlfarth and minor loop analysis.
