•Entropy was used to identify relationships between hydrologic variables.•Two separate ET datasets were analyzed with respect to streamflow.•Uncertainty in daily streamflow data was limited with drainage area size.•Observation of daily ET can reduce streamflow uncertainty at the smaller basins.
