•Nano-SiO2 and ZIF-8 were used as the carrier to immobilize β-glucosidase.•The enzymatic properties of the two immobilized β-glucosidases were compared.•β-glucosidase@ZIF-8 showed high anti-protease property.•A promising immobilized β-glucosidase was prepared.
