•Positive magnetoresistance is observed in CoFeB, CoNbTa nanocomposites in high field.•Positive magnetoresistance is 0.003–0.009% T−1 and persists up to room temperature.•Positive magnetoresistance arises from Zeeman effect’s influence on tunnel barrier.
