Abstract
Background: In the survey of 2001 –2012 in Papua (BMJ open 2014), we reported the higher prevalence of ALS than the global average notwithstanding the decrease compared with the report by Gajdusek in 1962–1981. We also reported that there was a high prevalence of overlapping ALS, parkinsonism and cognitive impairment, which has also been previously reported in Guam and Kii.
