摘要
Introduction: We started a systematic CPR training including a chest compression-only CPR and AED use for all approximately 3000 new university students every year since 2015. We conducted a follow-up survey to assess how many students meet collapsed persons and perform CPR. Objective: The objective is to evaluate actual behavior of students after the training at an emergency situation. Method u0026 Design: Cross sectional study. Participants: Second-year students (n=2967) and third-year students (n=2966) enrolled in 2016 and in 2015 respectively. Data collection: We carried out a questionnaire survey regarding experience of encounter with a collapsed person and performance of any resuscitation actions. Outcome measures: Experience of encountering a collapsed person after the training, performance of chest compressions, use of an AED and any resuscitation actions including calling 119 (in Japan) or checking response. Reasons not to perform CPR were also evaluated. Results: A total of 2616 (44.1% of CPR training attendee) were analyzed. We investigated third-year students (two years after the training) and the second-year students (one year after the training). During 3913 person-years, 156 students met collapsed persons and the incidence rate of encountering collapsed persons was 4.0 per 100 persons-year. Among those who met collapsed persons, 15.4% performed chest compressions, 14.2% used AED, and 47.4% performed other resuscitation actions. Among those who did not perform chest compressions, difficulties of diagnosing cardiac arrest or confusion and panic were indicated as barriers to performing chest compressions (Table). Conclusion: Among university students, 4 persons out of 100 persons per year met collapsed persons. Our systematic CPR training in university should be more enhanced to let students perform CPR in the actual emergency setting.
