Avances y retos en la implementación de la estrategia AIEPI en Medellín. 2012-2015

The strategy IMCI searches to reduce the morbidity and mortality in the maternal-child population, to strengthen the health services quality and to integrate the community care networks with those of the Health Provider Institutions (HPI). Medellin the Secretariat of Health defined the years 2012-2015, to carry out actions of training, advice, monitoring and assessment of the clinical, community and organizational component of IMCI. Results: Clinical component, the design of an Operational Plan (OP) and a route to attention for each of the Entity Managers Benefit Plans (EAPB) with their networks of the HPI. The assessment of overall adhesion of the strategy for the HPI in recent years has been on average of 32%, by 2015 the non-negotiable standards presented a compliance of 42% and of the general standards 39%. The public sector in this same year reached 87% in the non-negotiable standards and 88% in the other standards. Community component, the strategy IMCI were joined together with the public policy on early childhood led by the Buen Comienzo program. Organizational component, the Committee of Childhood and Safe Motherhood were formed, to plan, implement and evaluate the IMCI strategy, then it was expanding to other maternal-child issues. In summary, this process shows achievements and challenges that must be faced strengthening the intersectoral and inter-institutional joint and the involvement of different social actors of the city, from a rights-based approach and with a comprehensive approach from the preconception stage, the pregnancy and the early childhood.
