Facile synthesis and structural characterization of μ4-oxo tetrazinc clusters of beyerenoic and kaurenoic acids

•Two new μ4-oxo tetrazinc clusters of beyerenoic and kaurenoic acids were synthesized and characterized.•The solid-state structures of two novel μ4-oxo tetrazinc clusters using diterpenes as ligands were determined.•The reported procedure is facile, high yield and proceeds under mild reaction conditions.•To the best of our knowledge, the Zn(II) complexes reported are the first metal complexes of beyerenoic and kaurenoic acids.
