Abstract
In the Community of Paquiestancia in canton Cayambe, it was conducted an epidemiological study of prevalence and incidence of bovine mastitis using the field test California Mastitis Test and identification of the aetiological agent with microbiological testing of culture and antibiogram for antibiotic resistance. The sampling of milk was implemented in two stages with an interval of 4 months, 880 mammary quarters from 220 cows in production in 42 cattle farms were sampled. It was determined a prevalence (P) in the first stage of 64% and in the second 66% with an incidence (I) of 70%. The laboratory results confirmed the presence of the following etiological agents: Staphylococcus intermedius 26%, Staphylococcus aureos 22%, Streptococcus dysgalactiae 13%, Staphylococcus epidermis 13%, Escherichia coli cepa 1 13%, Micrococcus 5%, Corynebacterium sp 4%. According to the analysis of antibiogram, the animals in the study were residents Streptomycin 48%, Amoxicillin 35%, Cephalexin 5%, Tetracycline 4% and Gentamicin 4%. The risk factor that influences the prevalence and incidence of the disease is the lack of implementation of the good practices of milking.
