Cytotoxicity Of Nanocare Gold (R) In In Vitro Assay - Pilot Study

Background. Nowadays dentistry is based on new materials and advanced technologies. However, the treatment of deep carious lesions remains dubious. Restorative dentistry aims at introducing silver nanoparticles into materials in order to eliminate the bacterial microleakage. Nanocare Gold (R) is an accessory dental material with the aim to disinfect the cavity before restoration. As the manufacturer states, the material comprises of gold and silver nanoparticles. Yet, its exact characteristics are restricted.Objectives. The aim of this study is to determine cytotoxicity of Nanocare Gold, dentine bonding systems and restorative material as well as Nanocare Gold's influence on these materials' properties.Material and Methods. The human leukemia T lymphocyte cell line Jurkat was used to evaluate the cytotoxicity of dental materials - OptiBond Solo Plus (R), Clearfil SE Bond (R), Ketac Molar EasyMix (R) and their combinations with Nanocare Gold. The cytotoxicity was evaluated by means of cells' vitality using flow cytometry with the PI fluorescence assessment.Results. The study showed that Nanocare Gold itself is a biocompatible material. Statistically, the cytotoxicity level manifested by Clearfil SE Bond and its combination with Nanocare Gold was different compared to the control in the 24-hour observation. In the 48-hour observation the results for Clearfil SE Bond, Clearfil SE Bond/Nanocare Gold, OptiBond Solo Plus/Nanocare Gold were significantly different from the control. Also, OptiBond Solo Plus/Nanocare Gold manifested higher cytotoxicity than OptiBond Solo Plus alone.Conclusions. Nanocare Gold itself is a biocompatible material and probably may be used in deep cavities restoration. However, its combination with OptiBond Solo Plus remains dubious and should be more thoroughly evaluated
