Abstract
The purpose of this longitudinal study was to investigate prevalence of risk factors, complication of diabetes and glycemic control among diabetic patients in Phatthalung province. Of these, 22,955 diabetic patients were diagnosed and registered into the Phatthalung provincial chronic diseases databases between the years 2009 and 2013. The interested variables were risk factors, complication and glycemic control. The results revealed that risk factors of diabetes were 1.05 percent of history illness with diabetes among parental and sibling, 53.95 percent of over waist circumstance, 33.89 percent of history of hyperglycemia, 9.57 percent of hyperlipidemia, 6.14 percent of alcohol drinking, 6.10 percent of smoking, 76.73 percent of hypertensive illness. The complication of diabetes revealed that there were 8.74 percent of eye abnormality and 5.63 percent of foot abnormality. The prevalence of glycemic control between 2009 and 2013 were 35.27, 36.48, 36.40, and 35.29 percent, respectively. The study suggested that health promotion activities such as waist circumstance control should be promoted by health personnel responsible for diabetic control and activities for glycemic control.
