Multimodal Imaging: Surfactant‐Stripped Frozen Pheophytin Micelles for Multimodal Gut Imaging (Adv. Mater. 38/2016)

On page 8524, J. F. Lovell and co-workers report that pheophytin (demetallated chlorophyll), a safe pigment that is naturally consumed in human diets, can be used to form stable, surfactant-stripped micelles. Pheophytin nanoparticles pass completely and safely through the gastrointestinal tract and enable trimodal gut contrast imaging via photoacoustic, fluorescence, and positron emission tomography techniques.
