Abstract
Within all the recovery therapies of lost teeth, the dental implants have meant the revolution in the past 25 years. One of the keys for having achieved this success is the mechanical stability, which is the control of micromovement in the boneimplant interface during the masticatory forces. The resonance frequency analysis (RFA) is a method used to determine the stiffness of that interface and as a consequence, the stability of the implant itself. The aim of this study is to present a method to determine the resonance frequency of the dental implant inside the supporting bone based on the harmonic response analysis. For such goal an experimental study was carried out, on jaw of resin of two different densities in which 6 dental implants were placed. The implant insertion torque was measured, the vibrational responses of the implant were then acquired through a microphone when it was hit by a hammer and the harmonic was measured by a labview 11 software. The statistical analysis established a significant correlation (p<0.05) between the variables of the insertion torque (Ncm) and sound frequency (Hz); and between the sound frequency and the stiffness of the resin, so, the higher the density the higher the torque and the Hz value. The analysis of the harmonics has a relationship with other variables related to the implant stability, such as the insertion torque, the density and the stiffness of the supporting bone.
