Abstract
Cytogenetic studies, accompanied by FISH, arrayCGH or other molecular methodologies, are utilized to establish the genetic subclassification for pediatric leukemias. As acute leukemia is the most common malignancy of childhood, the genetic subtypes have been well defined and can be confidently identified and interpreted. However, a relative paucity of data exists for acute leukemia patients younger than 1 year of age or “Infant leukemia”, and acute leukemia patients in the first month of life or “Congenital leukemia”.
