Therapeutic efficacy of compound Xuanju capsule on type-III prostatitis-related erectile dysfunction

Objective To evaluate the clinical value of compound Xuanju capsule on the treatment of type- Ⅲ prostatitis- related erectile dysfunction. Methods 198 type- Ⅲ prostatitis patients with sexual dysfunction diagnosed by NIH clinical criteria were randomly divided into a control( n = 105) and a treatment group( n = 93). The former group were treated with oral levofloxacin 0. 2g bid for 4 weeks and oral doxazosin mesylate at 2 mg qn for 2 months,and the latter group plus with oral Compound Xuanju Capsule once 3 capsules tid for 2 months. The therapeutic results were analyzed based on the NIH- Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index( NIH- CPSI) and the International Index of Erectile Function( IIEF- 5),and the baseline data were compared between the two groups. Results None of the patients had serious medication- related adverse reactions. After treatment,the control group showed significantly decreased on NIH-CPSI scores and slightly increased on IIEF- 5 scores compared with the baseline( 17. 1 ± 5. 4 vs. 24. 8 ± 4. 9,P 0. 05 and 12. 9 ± 5. 1 vs. 11. 7 ± 4. 7,P 0. 05),while the treatment group exhibited significant improvement in both NIH- CPSI( 13. 3 ± 5. 6 vs. 24. 4 ± 5. 2,P 0. 05) and IIEF- 5 scores( 17. 6 ± 6. 3 vs. 10. 4 ± 3. 5,P 0. 05). The total effectiveness rate for ED was significantly higher in the treatment than that in the control group( 75. 3% vs. 21. 0%,P 0. 05). Conclusion Compound Xuanju capsule can significantly alleviate both the symptoms in the treatment of type- Ⅲ prostatitis- related erectile dysfunction.
