Flight control simulations of a butterfly-like flapping wing–body model by the immersed boundary–lattice Boltzmann method

•Flight control methods for a butterfly-like flapping wing-body model are proposed.•The positions of the center of mass or the center of lift are changed.•The center of mass is moved by an additional weight attached to the model.•The center of lift is moved by a short interruption of the wing motion.•Both methods can control the attitude of the model.
