Abstract
Modeling of power systems with interconnected wind energy sources requires high resolution time series of wind turbine (or wind farm) output powers, as their variable and unpredictable nature, weather-dependent, with complex correlations over space and time, poses increasing challenges for power systems planning and operation. These time series are often difficult to acquire or simulate accurately. Conversely, meteorological data (wind speed and direction, air pressure, temperature, humidity, to name a few) is often freely-available. One of such data is reanalysis, e.g. MERRA-2. To acquire the particular data from MERRA-2 reanalysis to be used in wind energy systems modeling, the significant time and knowledge is required to explore huge amount of data. There are two reasons of it, i.e. the file format NC4 and huge size of the file that consists of the data involving one day. The developed software supports downloading and initial retrieving the complex meteorological data in NC4 format. Moreover, the database of NC4 files is examined, with a high degree of dependability, burden just a minimal computer resources. After a short overview of the actual technical state, a general presentation of the project is provided. Moreover, the implemented technics insuring the dependability of the whole system is shown. Practical demonstration and test are also presented.
