Bayesian spatial modelling for quasi-experimental designs: An interrupted time series study of the opening of Municipal Waste Incinerators in relation to infant mortality and sex ratio

•One of the largest studies to date on infant mortality and sex-ratio and Municipal Waste Incinerators (MWIs)•Investigated 8 British MWIs opened between 2003 and 2010•Developed an Interrupted time-series (ITS) for small area data with comparative areas•Extended the ITS methodology to account for spatial dependencies at small area level•Found no associations between MWI opening and infant mortality and sex-ratio.
