•Bladder cancer (BCa) is about 4 times more common in men than in women, prognosis of patients with advanced BCa remains poor.•Androgen receptor (AR) expression in BCa patients correlate with tumor stage.•Enzalutamide inhibits AR nuclear translocation in BCa, induces apoptosis.•Enzalutamide and Cisplatin combination inhibits cell growth and EMT in AR+ muscle invasive bladder cancer cells.
