Down-regulation of corticosteroid receptor in leucocytes of stressed rainbow trout.

•Confinement stress of trout in shallow water resulted in immunosuppression.•mRNA levels of corticosteroid receptors decreased in leucocytes from stressed fish.•Proliferative and apoptotic responses to cortisol were unchanged by stress.•Conversely, those responses to LPS were attenuated.
