Abstract
•Cyclic stretch activated NLRP3 inflammasome by activating NIMA-related kinase 7 (NEK7).•NLRP3 depletion inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome activation and alleviated the degradation of junction proteins as well as mitigated the decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential caused by mechanical stretch.•VILI was alleviated via inhibiting the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome, providing a new target for prevention and treatment of VILI in clinical.
