•Resveratrol can synergize with low doses of L-DOPA to improve MPTP-induced Parkinson disease in mice.•Resveratrol has the potential to treat PD by inhibiting neuro-inflammation, apoptosis and promoting neuronal survival.•Resveratrol can serve as a complementary medicine drug to reduce the L-DOPA dose needed to ameliorate PD.
