Patient characteristics and opioid use prior to discharge after open gynecologic surgery in an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) program.

•Nearly half of patients undergoing open gynecologic surgery in an ERAS program are opioid-free prior to discharge.•Age, smoking status, and race are independently associated with opioid-free pain control prior to discharge.•Surgical indication, complexity and operative time, are not associated with opioid-free pain control prior to discharge.
