•New-type ZrTiHfV0.5Ta0.5Ox (x = 0.05, 0.1, 0.2) high-entropy alloys.•Oxygen atoms dissolve into the lattice of ZrTiHfNb0.5Ta0.5 alloy.•Interstitial strengthening effect of oxygen increases the strength intensely at room temperature or high temperature.
