Abstract
Novel dinuclear nickel complexes bridged by two hydrogencyanamido (NCNH-) ligands [(NiL)(2)(mu(2)-NHCN-N,N)(2)](2+) have been synthesized and structurally characterized. X-ray diffraction analysis suggests that each hydrogencyanamido ligand coordinates as a cyanamide anion (NC-NH-) rather than a carbodiimide anion (N+=C=NH-). The structure of the central (NiNCN)(2) ring skeleton varies slightly depending on the ancillary ligands, which affects strength of the NiNi antiferromagnetic coupling judging from the SQUID measurements.
