Abstract
Brain changes in schizophrenia have been shown by numerous imaging studies and corresponding meta-analyses, particularly concerning intrinsic functional connectivity (iFC) of ongoing brain activity, measured by resting-state functional MRI, and gray matter volume (GMV) of distributed brain regions, measured by structural MRI. However, it is unknown (i) which iFC-changes are specific to schizophrenia compared to those of other psychiatric disorders, and (ii) whether such specific iFC-impairments converge with GMV-changes. To address this question of specific and substantial dysorganization of intrinsic connectivity in schizophrenia, we performed a transdiagnostic and multimodal meta-analysis of resting-state functional and structural MRI studies in schizophrenia and other psychiatric disorders.
