•Dexamethasone-loaded scaffolds were obtained by a novel CO2-foaming method.•Magnetic suspension balance was an useful tool for describing scaffold foaming.•Scaffolds were studied regarding stability upon 3-month storage at ICH-conditions.•Scaffold changes upon storage depended on its composition.•The storage period modified the dexamethasone release from the scaffolds.
