Doppler Parameters Derived from Transthoracic Echocardiography Accurately Detect Bioprosthetic Mitral Valve Dysfunction.

•Transthoracic Doppler parameters identify dysfunctional mechanical mitral valves.•The authors examined these parameters in normal and abnormal bioprosthetic mitral valves.•The VTIMV/VTILVOT ratio was best at identifying valvular dysfunction.•VTIMV/VTILVOT > 2.5 was 100% sensitive for bioprosthetic mitral valve dysfunction.•VTIMV/VTILVOT > 2.5 was 95% specific for bioprosthetic mitral valve dysfunction.
