Abstract
•The addition of HCl and steam during carbonation and calcination was investigated.•The experiments were conducted using TGA and fixed bed reactor testing.•Presence of HCl led to increased sorbent reactivity during calcination with steam.•Full sorbent dechlorination is expected under oxy-fuel calcination conditions.•Decomposition of CaCl2 during calcination caused changes in the particle morphology.
