Abstract
Electrical energy has become one of the basic necessities of an individual in today’s era. Electricity generation using Photovoltaic (PV) system is considered as one of the cleanest methods of energy generation. Conversion of solar energy to electrical energy is achieved using solar PV panels. Solar panels can be used for stand alone system or in a grid connected system. The maximum energy conversion takes place when there is more amount of direct or beam radiation. So, In order to optimize the energy conversion, tracking of the Sun and the positioning of the solar panel are very important. In this paper, an attempt is made to study the affect of tracking on the energy yield of a rooftop PV system using PVsyst simulation tool. In this paper, the PV system is modeled using mono crystalline, poly crystalline and amorphous silicon panels. Comparison is drawn based on the parameters considered in the study for three different tracking schemes, i.e. no tracking, single axis tracking and double axis tracking.
