Study of Nonlinear Optical Properties of Amino Substituted Organic Dye by Z-Scan Technique Using CW Laser and DFT Calculations

In this article, the nonlinear optical response of 2,6-Diamino-9,10-Anthraquinone (26DAAQ) dye under diode pumped solid state CW laser operating at 532 nm is reported. The Z-scan technique was employed to measure nonlinear absorption coefficient beta, nonlinear refractive index n(2) and third order susceptibility chi((3)). The experiments were performed by varying the concentration of dye molecules in solution. The estimated values of beta, n(2) and chi((3)) are found to be of the order of 10(-5) m/W, 10(-11) m(2)/W and 10(-8) esu, respectively. Nonlinear absorption in 26 DAAQdye is attributed to reverse saturable absorption. The dye exhibited self defocusing kind of nonlinearity. Further, the molecular polarizability, hyper polarizability, ground state dipole moment and frontier molecular orbital as evaluated by performing quantum chemical calculations are reported. The theoretical calculations were done by employing DFT/B3LYP method with 6311++G (d, p) basis set. The experimental results accompanied with quantum chemical calculations suggest that 26DAAQ dye is a promising candidate for nonlinear optical devices.
