Minority ethnic individuals have a markedly increased risk of developing a psychotic disorder, particularly if they live in areas of ethnic segregation, or low own group ethnic density. There is evidence that minority ethnic status is associated with greater levels of paranoia, and amygdala hyperactivity has been linked to paranoid symptoms in psychosis.
